Alice Johnson graduated from Christopher Newport University in 1991 and has been a teacher with Hampton City Schools since. She spent 8 years teaching 7th grade alternative education in science, mathematics, social studies, and English.

Johnson earned a Masters Degree in Special Education from Old Dominion University and spent four years teaching special education for kindergarten and first grade. For the last several years she has taught 8th grade special education at Davis Middle School.

Until earlier this year, Johnson had two grown children at the Southeastern Virginia Training Center. Johnsons 34 year old daughter April was a resident at Southeastern with profound mental retardation. On June 2nd of this year April was the first reported casualty of the H1N1 flu virus in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In addition to April, Johnson has a 22 year old stepson Sean. Sean is a current resident at Southeastern and has autism with severe mental retardation.

Alice Johnson, along with her husband Tim, currently resides in Hampton. She serves on the advisory committee at Southeastern Virginia Training Center to rebuild and restructure the facility in accordance with the most recent guidelines. In addition, Johnson serves on a Southeastern committee that helps determine the placement of residents at the Center.
