The Battle of Dien Bien Phu (French: Bataille de Diên Biên Phu; Vietnamese: Chiến dịch Điện Biên Phủ) was the climactic confrontation of the First Indochina War between the French Union's French Far East Expeditionary Corps and Viet Minh communist revolutionaries. The battle occurred between March and May 1954 and culminated in a comprehensive French defeat that influenced negotiations over the future of Indochina at Geneva. Military historian Martin Windrow wrote that Dien Bien Phu was "the first time that a non-European colonial independence movement had evolved through all the stages from guerrilla bands to a conventionally organized and equipped army able to defeat a modern Western occupier in pitched battle.

  • Sure, the two songs are "The landing" from Final Fantasy VIII and "Victory Song" by Ensiferum (A folk metal song and I don't know if you will like its Harsh Vocal)

  • 390th Viet Minh Division? They did not have a 390th Division, it was 304, the elite 308, 312 and 316th divisions that made up the infantry at Dien Bien Phu, and took horrendous losses.

  • @PalleRasmussen Thanks, I heard "390th" by mistake I think

  • i dont even know how the french got there in the first place... but never the less the terrain was their downfall. viets wouldve been whipped up and served on a platter if there were no jungle in any war

  • @CharlieDoan - Correct. Other reasons are : VN guns were hidden effectively and were made difficult to spot and destroy by ground/air forces ; effective use of AAA by VN forces made air supply sketchy (at the end, 1 out of 2 air drops landed... in VN hands, fueling their own needs for shells, bullets, food...) ; lack of support at home (street protests, sabotage by French communists of weapons' production (grenades, bullets subsequently exploded in combat, killing soldiers on the front...)

  • Long live to Viet Nam and to uncle Ho

  • Good, good, very good!

  • Just a remember for all the french who were killed by vietmin during their captivity ...

  • Big surprise for French are:

    - They did not think the Vietnamese can pull BIG CANON over the mountain to right day, rifht time then WE BBQ the French..

    - French thinked American help, but..economic.....US want to replace French...hurt so much when allies trust each other so much ( not 1945 any more)

...... Victory..History for All Viet..(not only communist, they steal government from all parties and without VOTED They said themselve VietMinh and later VietCong = Vietnamese communist!

  • Look at 2 soldiers...Who moved faster??

Who can carry more stuffs...who is stronger (Slow and wait for help)

A true Viet, They fight for victory and kick the French out from father land

Not Vietminh.....ALL VIET fight for free Viet nam ...but later ho chi minh steal and his government until today NO BODY VOTED FOR HIM...VOTED JUST LIKE A SHOW AND LIED TO FREE WORLD.
