"In 1968 Elliott Bristow went to New York for a two week holiday. In 1980, after twelve years and 500,000 miles on the road in America he returned to England with three trunks containing 75 hours of silent Super 8 film - his diary of this 'holiday'!"

  • i thought i was the only person to remember this series, see my clip.

  • There are a few of us who remember it.

Is it worth while uploading more do you think ?

  • Oh WOW - (sorry posted twice - I got Elliott Bristow mixed up with ERIC Bristow - the darts player ROFL) All I can say is that lots of people inc. me really enjoy his 'work'. The quality is really good - I can see why it was worth transfering to DVD. There is something quite 'detatched' and 'other worldly' about 'Road Dreams' Will you be posting more excerpts?

  • Possibly

  • OW I saw this years ago on UK TV channel 4 - when it first began test transmissions ... I haven't seen the work of Elliott Bristow anywhere since. A labor of a true unrecognised genius. These images of are real memorial to a 'lost America' ... I know I would love to see more ... AWESOME

  • I have 3 of the 6 episodes in total.

About a year ago, I transfered them from VHS tape to DVD.

  • @koshkakk I have all on VHS video tape, nice to watch now and then.

  • This is a wonderful and evocative pieces of TV in which the viewer can write their own narrative. Its visual beauty is stunning and the minimal narrative perfect. Consequently, Bristow captures not only his but the memories of anyone who has explored the back roads of America. A real masterpiece. Bristow is attempting to re-edit the series under the title 'Codachrome'. If anyone out there has the finances to support this to conclusion, please contact him via the RetroRoad Trips web site.

  • I have all six episodes that Channel 4 in Britain aired around 1990 on a VHS tape. I'll get them burned onto DVD sometime having watched this again.

  • @koshkakk

i watched all these and actually ordered the DVDs on line from Elliot - they are superb visually and in feeling but not the same without the original music......if you have any excerpts from the originals - would love to see them here! Thanks for this, anyway!

  • @FoolOfGods My Pleasure! It was shown on UK C4 years back. As a "Penguin Cafe Orchestra" fan it was a real winner!

  • @houdini20000 Was given this on DVD - fabulous, everyone who sees it is utterly spellbound ... love the music in the series, much of it remains favorites of mine ... one day I'm going to visit Las Cruces, New Mexico, and in the middle of nowhere important and listen to some of the songs from 'Road Dreams' while counting the stars. The guy who made these deserves a medal or at least a jug of decent beer ... :) Thanks for sharing this one - a classic

  • Sorry about the upload promise... Youtube will not allow me to upload videos over 15 minutes long. I could split them in half and do episode 1 part 1/2 etc if that's any good?

I can't think of any other way around it.
