Hello! I'm the Wolfmaan and this is Luka. Thank you for viewing my video.

Leaving in early June 2009, I am going to undertake an expedition to hike the entire Bruce Trail with only my husky Luka from Niagara to Tobermory. This trip will take me almost two months and span a distance of over 850 kilometres.

I was fortunate enough that the company I work for, Sitel in St. Catharines Ontario was generous enough to assist me in this expedition by allowing me the 60 days off.

The trip will take me along the entire length of the Niagara Escarpment which used to be an ancient lakeshore shortly after the last ice age, and is composed of hard Dolomite and limestone. The Niagara Escarpment was designated a UNESCO Biosphere reserve in 1990 to help protect the fragile ecosystem along the escarpment.

This trip was inspired by great modern explorers like Polar Explorer Todd Carmichael, and Barefoot adventurers like Tom Perry, Dot Butler, Ron Zaleski, Susan Lletcher and Barefoot Ted.

As most of you who follow my blog know, I travel barefoot. You would be surprised how much prejudice some people hold against barefooters. A local hiking club even stated I was not allowed to hike with them because of this barefoot prejudice. One of the reasons I will be travelling the Bruce Trail, the entire 850km barefoot is to promote barefoot hiking and prove that it can be done.

Humans have been on the planet for over 200,000 years and have only been wearing shoes about 7,000 years. The rest of the time we went barefoot. It's a natural state and sadly, many people have a phobia about going barefoot

During my trip I will be using a satellite messenger unit to send messages home to my family each day as there may be no mobile phone service on the trip. I will have visitors re-supply me on the trail once every 10 days with food, clothes and other supplies.

During my trip I hope to meet some new and exciting people and learn more about Canada and myself.

  • @SniperMod90 Not much different than wearing your shoes into the house. The great thing about feet though is that they're washable :)

  • Heh, didn't know you worked at Sitel. I had a brief stint there when I was between jobs. I'm shocked they gave you 60 days off though.

  • I only don't like if people walk barefoot in the city center or so, cause it's really really grose with all the things like for example spit on the ground...ühhh and then going back in the house with all that bacteria.

  • Ah,I answered my own question,I asked why barefoot,now I know,thanks for sharing,very informative videos......Rich
