HoHoTO - the charity holiday party that Twitter built - was a big geekfest in Toronto, December 2008. A handful of concerned and engaged geeks got together to throw a fund-raiser for the Daily Bread Food Bank. In the space of about two weeks - from idea to event - we managed to pull together 600 people for a night of drinking, dancing and insanity - raising $25,000 for the Food Bank.
In prep for the party, we reached out to a number of our geek heroes to see if we could persuade them to send us video messages to run at the party. Founder of the famous BoingBoing.net blog, Cory Docotorow, did us proud (thanks Cory!)
If you haven't yet read Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, Little Brother, or any of Cory's other books - please: you owe it to yourself to buy them right now. Especially Little Brother - it's both a great read and an important book.
