It was a 'Short Snapping Shroud Sail' we under took this evening. We we're humming along in winds over 20kmph, had to have been doing 10 knots, which we've done many times; however it seems that the rivets we used to fasten things to the mast were not up to snuff. Using aluminum rivets was a mistake and in the last few frames of video showing us heading to shore you can see how the mast is heavily leaning towards port and the starboard shroud is completely gone. After some repair work we shall have her back out.

We ("RKAS" Royal Kennebecasis Adventures Society) build this Proa Outrigger "Wa'apa" design last year after 6 months of work. It was build using the design from Gary Dierkings Book "Building Outrigger Sailing Canoes". Enjoy.

  • @Proadude It does indeed, I've added new rigging to it and now it's really secure on the water, I haven't taken it out yet this year, may do so this weekend if everything goes well and the weather holds up.

Dierking's got some great designs! Very happy with what we've accomplished with this boat so far.

  • Nice boat! Looks like she really gets along. I love Gary Dierking's designs!
