A wiki is a website that allows a group of users to set up interlinked web pages that can be edited within a web browser. One of the most well-known wikis is Wikipedia, the open source encyclopedia.
Wikis are great for group collaboration, brainstorming, and campaign management. For example, when CrisisCommons held multiple Crisis Camps across the world following the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti, a wiki was used to share information, coordinate events, update project timelines, and collaborate on sub-projects.
There are many different wiki softwares to choose from; in this how to, we'll focus on PBworks, one of the simplest wiki platforms to set up and use. You should also check out Mediawiki and Wikispaces.
