25 years since the last GWR main line steam celebrations took place in the South West, and once more it was to happen again. It was also the first time in 25 years that a Tyseley-preserved engine(s) was to run on the Devon banks! Tyseley's 4965 Rood Ashton Hall and 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe return to their original home route hauling The Cornishman, Bristol to Plymouth via Exeter and the Devon banks. The weather played a major role for the day.

Starting off at Allerford near Taunton the pair make their approach on their first attack on Whiteball, hauling a ridiculous load of 10 coaches. After the water stop at Tiverton loop the pair are seen bringing Dainton to its knees as they attack the steepest 1 in 37 section.
On the return working from Plymouth and with the sun setting, the Great Western dou thrash Bow Grange as they approach the western section of Dainton. After watering at Exeter they are seen finally at Burlescombe as they make their final leg to Bristol.

  • An excellent compilation Ryan, and a superbly inspired choice of positioning at Bow Grange - just right to get the reverse curves in the frame whilst also being able to be in great position for the pan across the top of the cutting which then enabled you to get a really good going away shot. Definatley 5* if we were still alloed to vote!!

  • I agree with what you say I had seen that spot filmed before and wanted to try it out. I must admit unless I'm wrong but I think the Bow Grange shot is the best shot of the film due to how I did it and the location itself.

  • Absolutely fantastic compilation of clips Ry, it doesn't get any better than this...excellent throughout....Bob

  • Thanks again for your outstanding comments Mr. Masterman I had hoped it all came well with fears of what could happen with shots, but yeah it all came well.

  • that was so brilliant and nice good video thanks

  • Brilliant camera work and locations

  • No you still gotta pay £1 to be in that field, were ever you go in that field but for £1 to see a great performance by steam is well worth it.

  • I assumed that you payed £1 to go into the field at Dainton, has that stopped now or did you go into the lower field?

  • Great footage - as always.

  • You seem to see me everywere I go, were as I can't see you so you've clearly got good eyesight. With a light load like that for a doubleheader all for £1??? I'd prefer if they stuck 12 or 13 on!
