an unusual TV proramme from the early 1980s looking at the changing patterns of the rifle, Snider, Martini Henry, Lee Metford, Enfield, SMLE, Mauser - its all here
@dspf85 It's pretty much the same over here. Firearm licences are generally not given to the public except in exception cases such as those you describe.
Remember the UK is a very small and crowded country.
we do the right thing with firearms and they still ride us. stupid thing is that what governments everywhere and anti gun lobbyists dont seem to realise that if you OUTLAW GUNS, ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE GUNS
plus inspection by the cops of your firearm storage, any breaches can result in fines or loss of permit. and when were pulled over by the police they check your drivers licence they'll know your a gun owner then they search your car wheather you have them with you or not all pump action shotguns semi auto and auto firearms have been banned since the port arthur shootings and most hand guns are banned due to the monash university shooting. police treat licenced gun owners like criminals here
Are firearms illegal in the uk? not being a dick or anything just asking im in australia there not illegal but they make you jump through a heap of hoops to get them stuff like the .303, shotgun, really any bolt or lever action firearm can be obtained but they have to be licenced, have a reason to own them either being a member of a gun club or have a letter of permission from a landowner of over 40 arces where you intend to shoot, you are subject to police checks.
