Nov. 5, 1960. Navy, whose star Joe Bellino would win the Heisman Trophy, gets only loss in 1960 at Duke, 19-10.

The Duke University Archives preserves 16mm film and videotape created by the coaching staffs of the Duke football and men's basketball programs. This site contains descriptions of the film and videotape shot, whether an access copy exists, and in some cases, the physical condition of the original film. Football films and video cover the period of 1935 to 1994 and Men's Basketball film covers the period of 1947 to 1996. It is important to note that the films document the play of the teams and were created as tools for study and training, not for broadcast. Some films were cut and spliced, so the footage may not show the complete game or be in the order the game was played. Also not every game was filmed and there are numerous gaps in the coverage of the film. For information on how to view or request a copy of a film, please see http://library.duke.edu/digitalcollections/dsf

  • Joe Bellino is my cousin. He is a greater man off the field than on the field. He is a great father; devoted brother and a life time friend to all that he touches. I grew up listening to my mother shouting at every Navy game on the T.V. for Joe. He comes from a great family of achievers and athletes. His little brother Mike broke all of his high school records.

  • I remember watching Joe Bellino on TV as a kid. I thought he was just about the most elusive back in history. That fireplug build and low center of gravity made him awfully hard to bring down cleanly. I wasn't a Navy fan and I always feared him when he played ND or Army.

  • @suchansyn

Duke's helmets had a padding that ran down the middle of the helmets. Ohio State had helmets like that also.

  • I started going to Ga. Tech games in 1960 because my uncle married Bobby Dodd's secretary and she always came through with tickets to home games. Boone ever gave Tech as tough a time year after year than Duke. It was a pleasure to watch them play.

  • I think Duke and Navy would make good annual Conference Rivals if they weren't in BCS Conferences. Then they would both do well annually in Football. But Duke being in the ACC is always in danger of only winning 1-2 games or going winless like they don't a few times in the last ten years.

  • Whats with the crazy Duke helmets ?

  • Navy actually had one of the Top Football Programs in the country at one point

  • this is like wicked wierd. its my x bf's dad or grandpa im not sure though lol i think its his grandpa

  • its so funny couse my friends name is joe bellino and this guy is his uncle

  • Staubach was at Navy from 1962 to 1964, winning the Heisman in 1963, his junior year.
