I grew up with the Statesmen & Blackwoods & really love their music. I also now enjoy Ernie H. & Signature Sound...but I've always been bent towards those songs you can "get on your mule, and go on down to town" as Hovie would say!
I'm still hopeful to join a quartet myself, Lord willing.

The Statesmen were so cool! I love Big Chief and Jake, Doy, Hovie, and the rest! The rest copy them, and that is the highest compliment!

Cat Freeman was the tenor after Denver died in 1957 and before Rosie joined in 1958.
