Hey guys, this is a Spoken Word performance I did at the "Hip Hop Away From Violence" concert... the words are below, but I'm not sure if I changed it during my performance, because sometimes I would improvise words etc. That being said, I prefer that you listen to the spoken word, rather than read it. Nonetheless the original is still below.
Hope you enjoy :P

The Silence of Violence

Why is it that when it comes to violence we are silent? See the silence of violence is the worst offense and if we had any sense, and if our brains werent so dense we would have a stronger defense against this immense and intense violence.
And see we are trapped in a dangerous cycle where the more violence there is, the more silence there is and Im wondering if theres a cure. Cuz our pity is obscure so much so that we dont care anymore. We dont care that half of the world is living in fear. Probably we dont care because we aint living there. But imagine the irony at which the world has been classified; over here we are greedy: terrified to be satisfied. Over there they are the needy: satisfied at being terrified because they are use to the violence. And its a shame that they are also use to us shedding only silence.
But our family tree is dying cant you understand? Cuz whether we believe in God and Adam as the first man; or whether we believe in biology and amino acid coding see whatever view you have humans came from the same origin.
And we may talk about world peace but do we aspire to it? We may say we want it, but do we desire for it? And we claim to be patriotic but do we even know what that means? Because it seems that the same way we rock our patriotism is the way we rock our racism.
Where we say to others, my country is better than yours, so Im gunna shut the door, cuz your inferiority makes you unable to ask what for? Where we say my country is better so we always soar above you, so I dont need to adore you, or hold you when youre sad: instead Ill scold you and be glad.
But thats not patriotism cuz patriotism aint racism. And dont get me wrong, Im proud to be Canadian but see Im patriotic to the fact that Im a human being.
And so no I am not Palestinian, but I still got fathers dying in Gaza,
And no I am not African but I still got mothers dying in Rwanda,
And no I am not Afghani but I still got sisters dying in Kandahar,
And no I am not Sikh but I still got brothers dying in Amritsar,
And no I am not Chinese but I still got children dying in China,
And its sad to see my own grandfathers, and uncles, and brothers, and cousins all killing each other. Its like they pick up a gun and shot when they are blinded to see the only people they are killing are part of their family. So every time a trigger is pulled, our family tree gets smaller. We see violence cutting down our tree and all we say is timber. And we dont care that our tree is falling down, tumbling to the ground. We speak profound words but they are nothing but empty literature.
And ya see, we arent connected to one another through our land mass. Cuz even though it is vast, even though it will last, even though it stuck with our ancestors from the past borderlines cut through the land and even the mighty mountains that raise high. And so the people of the world are united by an unscarred sky. And when I look to the sky I see more than a blue endless drag; cuz what I see is a mosaic of world flags. So realize that when violence claims the life of a family member we may never see: the blood of the victim rains down and floods the world oh so silently.
And every day the skies open up with our families cries, as more family dies. And so the voice lies in us to put a past tense to the silence and it all starts today as we hip hop the world away from violence. So go to class and go home and think these words over again and again. And make a promise that from here on forth, the cycle of the silence of violence shall come to an end.
