Hm, ok but only the clapper of the World Peace Bell seems to swing. The bell hardly moves!

@Wijnmuseum The bells clapper is counterweighted at the top to help facilitate it. It is also considered a canting bell as the yoke is more U Shaped. The sound of this bell seems much better to me...

I was in Cologne when the last pope died and they rang the bells. Apparently an extremely rare event so quite moving to experience something like that.

Obviously the bell moves enough to be considered a swinging bell and not a clocked bell (where the clapper moves and the bell in 100% stationary).

i agree with you. the bell like twitches a few inches. the clapper just does the job more than the bell

Largest free-swinging bell in the world! It was the largest swinging bell on earth period until the World Peace Bell in 2000, and then the Gotenba City bell in 2006.
