These are my seven week old Blue Cap Cordon Bleus playing on my hand. The sound bite in the background is one of the juvenile CBs practicing singing while the other three doze.

  • Greetings, I have set up some spy cams again this breeding season and hope to have some interesting bird life action to post. As I watch them via USB spy cam on my laptop I am mesmerized, like watching a flame in a campfire, I'm captivated.

  • Nice looking birds. Did the parents nest in a cage or in an aviary? Is it true they won't breed in a cage?

  • Hi, these youngsters were handraised by myself. The eggs were not being sat on at night so I pulled them and incubated them, raising them from day one/hatch day. I do have other pairs that have raised their own babies in their own breeder cage. I raise canaries so I have mainly breeder cages with some flight cages for my birds. I have other pairs of Cordons that have bred in their breeder cage and sat on their eggs but then did not raise the chicks.

  • Hello there, First thanks for the video,

I have a pair of Fire finches they have 2 babies and they trow one out, What food do I use to hand food them to start with? and how often is the best? I can see you have done really well, Thank you

  • Exact is the brand. I bought this from a pet store, of course you can get it by ordering through the web at many bird product sites. I fed these chicks every hour from 6:30 in the morning till about 11 at night for several weeks.

  • Thank you for your comment. I so enjoy my blue little birdies, I smile that your birdies enjoyed them too!

  • I have heard that it is difficult to breed these birds. They require a lot of live food during breeding!!

  • Your birds are absolutely lovely!

I just sent you an e-mail about Cordon Bleus and hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks for sharing the video! :)

  • dont you think it would be important to READ about the bird before you TAKE it home and DECIDE YOU want it. Don't you think about how the BIRD IS FEELING!

  • I've had some before. I've never ever seen such gorgeous tame ones though. Thanx

  • Hi, I really enjoyed your videos of bleus. I have a pair myself too. I have a question i wanted to ask if you don't mind. I wanted to breed them, but no sucess. How do you do it?

    Thanks

  • I'm getting a Blue tomorrow. I'm so excited. i had a gouldian finch and she got out of her cage and flew away so im going to get a Cordon Blue for Christmas. I honestly don't know a whole lot about them so im going to be learning

  • Thanks for the reply. Wow ! It must have been a lot of work raising babies from day one with all the required feeding around the clock but I'm sure it was worth it. I'm thinking about buying a couple of these birds but I keep reading that they need a big cage or aviary especially if I want them to breed but I think my 3'x 2'x 2.5'cage is good enough.
