Using a variation of a McKibben muscle that provides both compressive and tensile forces, create a bundle of actuators that can push and pull off of each other. This allows for an arm segment with 3DOF, including elongation and shortening of the segment.
This is an initial prototype of one segment, but multiple segments may be combined to create a light weight, inexpensive hyperarticulated tentacle or arm.
