Boocoo is a project of Enterprise Development Foundation (EDF). It opened in 2007, and is a special effort to bring a live space of creativity to an area that has been neglected for a long time. It is also right across from the only public high school in Evanston (Illinois), so it is a great opportunity to provide a place for all ages and backgrounds.
Boocoo was built by Community Builders of Evanston, the other major project of EDF. Community Builders is a "green jobs" initiative of EDF, in which young men become the core of a local construction company that builds sustainable projects. To us, "sustainability" needs to create economic, environmental, and societal value.
Boocoo has permeable pavers, low VOC paint, energy-saving lights, and is even heated and cooled by a geothermal system (by Indie Energy).
