@lodown31 I know this was 9 months ago... but you completely missed the context. Paul is talking about the "effect" of "the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free".
How can they be lost if Paul already said they've been set free (5:1). He's telling them that they are forefeiting the liberty (the "effect") by adopting legalism.
Christ becomes of "no effect" to Christians all the time and He draws us back to correct understanding and the liberty He intends for us to live in.
Talk about twisting God's word! Galatians 5:4 is CLEARLY talking about unsaved folks! Yes, he uses "us" in verse 1 but then he draws the contrast and changes to "ye" in verse 2. Verses 2 thru 4 are clearly talking about those who are trying to get there by works IN CONTRAST to those of "us" who are freed by Christ, not our works. He said that the people in verse 4 are merely confused but saved Christians? Did I hear that right? If Christ has "become of no effect unto you" then you ARE NOT SAVED!
