I am an old school guy, using animal since 1959. I was an electronics designer for 35 years and many of my designs were high reliability and went to space in research projects for the Canadian government. If pumps were "high rel" they would cost $100,000 each so I would never trust pumps as they are today. There is nothing more reliable than a syringe and with a bit of knowledge keep diabetics well within the safe limits. My 52 years without any complications speak volumes for this.

I’m kind of used to taking shots 4 – 5 times a day. I was told there is some risk that the insulin pump needle may come out without noticing until your sugar level sky rockets. Which could cause blood clots. What are your thoughts Allie?

Many people have decided that shots are a better option for them. There is definitely a chance of high sugars resulting from 'NO DELIVERY' or dislodged pump infusion sets. One of the things that you'll want to consider with insulin pumps is frequent bG checks. If you notice an upward trend without cause - it's a better 'safe than sorry' approach to change the infusion site.
