Hi MrJouleJr, all coil generators output AC power, the two outputs flip flop between positive and negative, in this case as the magnet approaches the coil one of the two outputs becomes positive and then as the magnet moves away it becomes negative and the other output does the opposite,

Hi Taylaron1, the longest I have had this running starting with one set of 10 charged AA batteries and one set of 10 flat AA batteries ( both sets rechargeable) is about 40 hours and is by no means self sustaining but it does do a great job of reviving batteries (small or large) that will no longer take a conventional charge!
