Nearly 50 years after the revolution, is Cuba on the brink of another major change? Dreams of founding a Socialist utopia have all but vanished. Few expect Fidel Castro to return to government. Even his brother, Raul, accepts the economy needs to be reformed. But decades of crippling sanctions have not had the desired effect. Cuba famously has one of the best healthcare and education systems in the world. And while critics lambaste Castro's regime as a Communist dictatorship, in the favelas of Havana, people have seen real benefits.

  • Well if someone can actually tell me a system that can get a country from a dictatorship and just make poverty dissapear i will change my political believes, Cuba was very poor before, and now it is still considered poor, but now at least people don't fear about disease as the health care system is one of the best in the world and it's FREE, when 99.8% of the population is literate and its people life expectancy can compete with those of developed european countries.

  • Che Guevara is a true revolutionist!

  • @firedup643

Better healthcare. Although I don't think Cuba is communist.

  • @MrJoncastro why should the us give cuba anything of ours, he hates everything about our nation....let your people have free elections like the US, by the way, my vote hardly counts because we don't have a popular vote, our crooked politicians only need the votes of New York, California,Florida, and Texas!!!

  • what does santeria have to do with after the revolution??

  • Whats up with the long intro?

  • I love how every convinced Capitalists' response to Leftists is "well, why don't you fuck off to a Communist country then?"

Duly noted. Now don't be a hypocrite - Cuba is a Communist country. Well, if you don't like it, why don't you fuck off and live in a Capitalist country - and leave Cuba the fuck alone!

  • @WankityWank

Why dont you f*ck off to a communist country then if you dont like it in the UK? Give me freedom over dictatorship any day.

Cubans have a good health system and reasonable literacy rate with little knowledge of science, history or the modern world.

If you want to live like its still the 1940's go to cuba the poor fuc*kers cant even leave their own country if they dont like it.

  • I wonder what Cuba would look like without harsh sanctions. And US hostility. My hypothesis is that Fidel Castro became dictator because he was scared that the United States would imperialize it again. Cuba could of been democratic.
