State Assemblyman Warren Furutani, speaking at Harry Bridges Day: "I really want to commend the ILWU. They're having this breakfast here. The impact of the longshoremen in the region is tremendous, politicially and of course based on what they do everyday on their job. And their teaming up with Dee Andrews is the perfect combination to have the pancake breakfast here this morning. Harry Bridges and his legacy fits right in with what the union is doing nowadays. The battle for the movement of goods; making sure our ports function well. Harry Bridges would be right there making sure that as we deal with this issue of movement of goods, as we deal with this issue of the economy, that he would also be doing it hand in hand with the environmental justice movement so that as we deal with the economic issues, it is not at the expense of the quality of life of the people of this region. So a great partnership: ILWU, local city council, other elected officials... It's a pleasure and honor to be here."
