Finally on a philosophical note (which you didn't ask about, but its youtube so what the hell) I don't know if I'm particularly fond of using such a mathematical approach to arranging but it seemed to be the right thing to do at the time. Glad you enjoyed it!!!

the 4:3 ratio is broken into groups of 2 1/8 notes + 2 1/8ths +3 1/8ths. the bassline permutates this pattern on the A sections beginning 2+3+2 (twice) then 3+2+2 (twice) then 2+2+3 (twice). The B and C sections use conventional time signatures, 5/8 and 5/4. There also is a chart on my website which expresses everything in compound conventional time signatures. However when the band learned this tune I taught them the bass line first using the 4:3 ratio and they caught on quickly.

this will take a minute to explain. I took the title of woody shaw's composition to be a reference to one's musical development. this may or may not be what woody intended (probably not). Therefore, I wanted this arrangement to reflect my development and decided to use the theme of two "steps" forward and one back. the bassline is the literal expression of my theme as it follows a 4:3 ratio which is not the 2:1 ratio of my theme but its the closest ratio that worked musicall.
