For the first time in more than 40 years, experience two of the greatest actors of our time in one of the most honored motion pictures in history. Peter O'Toole delivers an electrifying performance as the mischievous Henry II, who surprises England by naming his fellow rogue and trusted valet Thomas Becket (Richard Burton in a career defining role) as Chancellor.

But when Henry next appoints him Archbishop Of Canterbury, Becket shocks the world by openly defying the King with his newfound faith and compassion. Will a desperate ruler now destroy a beloved friend to save his splintering kingdom? John Gielgud co-stars in this stunning epic based on the Broadway sensation and brought to the screen by Hal Wallis, the legendary producer of ANNE OF THE THOUSAND DAYS, TRUE GRIT and CASABLANCA.

Once thought lost forever, BECKET has now been restored to its original majesty with the support of the Film Foundation and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, including breathtaking new 2.0 stereo and 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtracks and a revealing commentary by Peter O'Toole.

Becket is available on DVD from MPI Home Video.

  • I had a boyfriend once that was obsessed with his biz partner - Johnnie Bristol. JB was a cavilier, ladys' man, & a Maverick. But I heard his name mentioned hourly...minutely!

Finally one Saturday morn his name was mentioned one time too many (SLAMMING my fist on the table), "Bristol!, BRISTOL! always Bristol... I am your woman to be your wife Aire of all that you are, womb to your forebarers!.....Yet you pollute the air withthat name...'Bristol'"

  • interesting Peter O Toole was to reprise Henry II yet again in 'The Lion In Winter' only 4 years later..

  • Absolutely brilliant movie.

  • Bcket is one of the greatest movie ever made for some one to out there and say this is an awful movie makes me wonder what such a person may consider a good movie may be its the generation gap

  • @RichardElden I'll assume you meant Armageddon.

  • Beckeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

  • btw...BECKET DIES

  • when men were men, and movies were scenes of people arguing back and forth without any action set pieces to really push their worst fears. looks damn good though, truly.

  • Great as Burton was (and he was), he's put to cartoonish shame by O'Toole's performance here. A spectacular (even if, as is standard Hollywood routine, woefully short on historical accuracy) jewel of a film. It stymies the mind to wonder what Juan considers a good film. Armageddon? >|D

  • IN BED IN BED IN BED

  • @kitethehacker It's an overlong and boring, made up, studio-bound film, with stilted dialogue. And the real Becket was a Norman.

So glad the talentless overacting ham Richard Burtoin died at only 58 - I wish he had died of LUNG CANCER.
