Here is an informal walk through of our gothic arch wood greenhouse, for your enjoyment. I made the greenhouse. I used plans from Virginia poly technical institute, yellow and red cedar, fir, double walled polycarbonate covering, designed 1962, modified by me.

  • This is unbelievably fantastic. If I built something like this for my wife, I would be golden, I could never ,ever do wrong again. So, a few questions, if you please. What are the overall dimensions (h,w,l)? What is the size of the office space? What is your oncenter between columns? Thank you for posting this.

  • @darthom She still tells me thank you and how much she loves it, all the time. It really amazes me what it has meant to her. I think the dimensions are 22x44 feet. The arches are 4ft on center and the office is 10x12 GL

  • Hi, I made several of these VPI greenhouses in the 70's,the 12 foot wide ones. I wanted to make a few more but can't find the bulletin. wondering if you still have yours and would be willing to share. Nice job on the greenhouse ,by the way

    thanks

    Rick

  • @60rick Well, sure, of course. How can I do that exactly. I'm not really interested in that 12' one but it is cute. If I could figure how to post the information on the big one, then I would be happy to do the same for the smaller- Thanks

  • Very nice job. I've been thinking about replacing mine with something bigger. (see my channel) This gives me a few great ideas! Did you make a jig to bend and laminate the ribs so they would all be identical? Do you think they are strong enough to handle a heavy snow load? Also, where did you buy the poly carb from? Keep up the good work!

  • @web4deb Yes, I screwed 2x4 blocks onto a wooden floor to use as a guide to make all the arches. It's incredibly strong, with hardly any deflection at the ridge. We have some snow and ice and I do think it will shed most any amount. Though it will pile up around the bottom. We got the plastic from a local nursery supply. There are probably better variants today, but I do like the channel and cap system on this. Cheers!

  • Do cute! By day,I live in a small plexiglass greenhouse. It feels like I'm outside, but it's heated. Your taj mahal is great!

  • Yup...now I need one of these

  • You must have a lot of repotting to do for all those plants!

  • @loveiswithus try heating with compost, just make some large compost boxes and fill them before winter so they get started, the temp inside a compost pile can reach very high temperatures that can provide just enough to keep your tropical plants safe. I am looking threw the post trying to find if you said where one gets plans for this green house but if you mention it here again that would be cool. thanks

  • @60rick Hi again, wondering if you thought anymore about sharing the plans for 12 ft greenhouse. i sure would appreciate it

    thanks
