Starting in January 2009, several European newspapers and magazines reported about the practice of life without parole sentences for juveniles in the USA, which is worldwide unique and by far exceeds European standards.
Some stories were described in greater detail, for example the cases of Courtney Schulhoff, Sarah Kruzan, Timothy Kane, Rebecca Falcon and Kenneth Young. Most cover pictures showed Courtney Schulhoff. Stefan Scheytt, the articles author, had visited and interviewed her in 2008.
A translation of the passages depicting Courtneys case into English can be found http://www.justice4kids.org/Courtney%20Schulhoff/C_Schulhoff_case_2009.pdf here and more information in general plus a couple of links http://www.justice4kids.org/Kids%20as%20Adults/courtney_schulhoff.htm here.
Courtney Schulhoff was sentenced to life without parole in 2006. In 2004, she was 16, her then boyfriend (21) murdered her father. She had allegedly initiated it and impelled him, but the accusations were rather based on speculation than on serious evidence. And even assuming some involvement, there had been circumstances and previous events strongly diminishing her guilt. Life without parole is an absurd and perverse excess.

So German television actually points out what it considers human rights violations in other countries? Perhaps they should do stories that concentrate on nations who have tried to exterminate an entire people. This girl killed her father with her scumbag boyfriend and is in a cushy jail, Anne Frank was the Hide-n-Seek World Champion and was killed for it. I totally get vilifying our government with our help in tearing down the Berlin Wall. Just in case my sarcasm is lost, f you Germany.

the privatized prison system needs every person they can get to maximize the profits.
And you, dear hardworking, all-normal, churchgoing American, you get preached the holy gospel in one ear, but in your other ear the fear- and hatemongers yell: "No Parole! Die in here! YES! Death! Death! Death!"

life without parole is worse than the death sentence. which is why i find it absurd that the usa made it that people under 18 can't be executed. i guess i appreciate the fact the usa is starting to slowly give up on its medieval laws but i'd rather be dead than spend 70-80 years in prison and die of old age having done nothing with my life. the usa wants low crimes yet they do higher sentencing laws. ironically the states with softer sentences also get less crimes.
