Chainsaw student tries out bucking with a wedge. This fellow was new to saws, and really fell hard for horsepower and throwing chips. Bucking was done beginning on the compression side of the log until the cut began to close, then a wedge was put in to keep the cut open. Cutting continued out the tensioned side of the log. Notice how the operator keeps his body out of line from the bar of the saw.

  • Great video! I'm surprised how many people don't know how to use a wedge. You've illustrated perfectly how simple and quick it is to use.

  • Cheater! LOL

  • @a1jc2 These guys who say they never owned/used a wedge don't say how many times they went home with a bar (stuck) in a tree and the power head in their hands.

  • @flamedrag18 I was thinking that too, at least the last few inches.

  • I fell timber 30 yrs, up to 400 trees a day, i never used a wedge. Bucked up to 75 cords a day on the landing, never used a wedge. I didn't own a wedge, My dad is 86, he was a full time logger, i never saw him use a wedge.

  • ok, interesting, but wouldn't it be easier to cut from the bottom?

  • you would have to be silly to go falling without a couple wedges, if you dont have one though cut in from the top for a bit then come up from the bottom with the saw
