The events leading to the trade of Joe Thornton from Boston to San Jose.

Interviewing Scott Thornton while Wayne Primeau, Brad Stuart, and Marco Sturm were warming up. After the interview, they were quickly pulled aside as they were told they were headed to Boston. Because of that, the healthy scratches for San Jose, Niko Dimitrakos and Jim Fahey, had to quickly go from the press box to the locker room to suit up in order to have the minimum roster dressed. Ironically, Randy Hahn makes a point about trade rumors as they go to their first break.

The trade was heavily rumored throughout the game, and was officially announced in the 2nd intermission.

Two nights later, Joe Thornton makes his debut, and his first shift tries to make the best of it by ringing the puck off the crossbar. It was the first shift in a new era of Sharks hockey on December 2, 2005
