This is so sad... which only proves that women of color we must appreciate the hair that God has given us and work with what we have .... then our hair will grow long and strong. Yet we won't take the time to learn and research. I too have had damaged from relaxers for it burning my scalp and being left on too long I even had a bald patch in my hair that's when I decided enough is enough natural hair is the way to go for me.

Yes, people please do your research. This is simply a scare tactic to get black woman to go natural. You hair nazi's are something else I swear. While I do think it's better to wear your hair in it's natural state, it's possible to maintain your relaxed hair with proper care, though I do feel for this woman in the video. Saddens me to see what happened to her.

I didn't say women NEED to go natural. Obviously you didn't read my whole comment. I also read your statement about this vid being a scare tactic. Please know what you're talking about.

being bald is not a tragedy. It's hair, not your damn liver.

Really? How is this a "tragedy"? Is it now tragic that someone goes to the salon to get their hair done and come out injured and bald?

I really admire her for her courage because most black women would have never done that. Its good that we have examples of how relaxers can really harm us. And FYI they also are the leading cause in fybroids in black women.

Many black women consider their hair so close to themselves that it is part of their identity. Raise the topic of discussion of hair in the black community and there will be debates that would go on for probably years. This "tragedy" damaged her self-esteem. It may just be hair, but it is hair that will never grow back again. Relaxing hair is a gamble and will not always turn out the way you want, and natural hair is the only way to go if you truly want "good hair".

I don't need to realize anything because I've been natural since 2007 and have mid-back length, healthy hair. Did you miss where I said "I do think it's better to wear your hair in it's natural state..." ? However, if woman want to use relaxer and know what they're doing, then left them do what they want. It's their business. Not everyone needs to go natural.

By the way, how is this a "tragedy"? It's hair. Not like she has cancer or anything. And anyway, just because your hair didn't break off when you got a relaxer doesn't mean it won't happen to anyone else(my mother)
