Way back when (in 1975) ... a group of friends and family from Northern California did this hike - over 200 miles and none of it less than 8,000 feet in elevation (except for Yosemite Valley) - along the John Muir Trail in the Sierra Nevada. It was a time when you could still see glaciers in September. Huge thanks to Ed Devlin for organizing all of the original material. Kudos to all the hikers - even those no longer amongst us. ED: the Lafayette brainstorm was a blast! Terrible Terrence of Guerniville: Get Well Soon. Hi Darcy! Hi Robo! Hi Kiki. Hi T on Lafayette hanging out on coffee corners. ... shucks ... hi to everyone ....

  • Alex:

    Thank You Much:

I appreciate your posting this video because I love the Sierra's and I can't imagine how cool it must have been to hike the Muir trail back then, although it's still probably America's greatest hike!

  • You're welcome. Have you done the trail? From your user name at first I thought you were one of the 1975 hikers. If you haven't, never too late! Or at least the approach to Whitney!

  • Thanks for the memories! In 76 I went from Yosemite over on much of the JMT, peeling off at Thousand Island over to Lakes Ediza and Minarets, then out to the Devils Postpile. Drove to Whitney portal and RAN up Whitney. After two weeks at high altitude, Whitney wasn't bad at all. In 77, went from Whitney, through Forester/Pinchot into Rae Lakes and back to Kings Canyon. Good times, good memories.

  • This is GREAT! made me think back to my first solo sierra high route, sort of . . . and of course the JMT . . . think I gotta get out there again this summer. THANKS for the inspiration.

  • I love that this is way back then... I was ONE year old! Seems so much more pure than today. Thanks for sharing.

  • Man I wish I made that hike back in the day but at least there's this. Thanks for the post. Gorgeous - so great someone thought about toting a camera along, back then a good one probably weighed a lot!

  • very cool. what a memorable experience.
