Just a collection of 50 or so stills compiled into a time-lapse sequence of an approaching supercell at a York Nebraska truck stop. This was a long-lived supercell which produced several tornadoes including the Aurora Nebraska one moments before this. Stills were taken at 10mm with a Canon 10-22 EF-s on a Canon XSi, wide open at 200 or 400 ISO I believe....various shutter speeds. Chase account of the day is here: http://www.extremeinstability.com/09-6-17.htm

  • Stuff like this constantly has me trying to work on my patience behind the still cam; you shoot those with this timelapse in mind, or did the timelapse idea come later?

  • Nope, never thought to do it at the time, like 90% of the things I end up trying to time lapse later. Wish I'd think to do it more often, even on video.

  • why do people over-dub dreadful music to clips instead of the real sound which in this case would be even more awesome than the visuals

  • Perhaps since there was no real audio with a bunch of still photos? Besides, semi noises and faint thunder...eh I don't think anyone is missing much there. Certainly not more than the visuals, but of course one can't just enjoy the free visuals of such an event anyway.

  • I think that adding recorded storm sounds would have just made this a documentation of reality. But, adding music that complemented the pictures makes this more of an artform. I genuinely think you should pair up with a dj or a musician/composer of some kind and create a short film out of stuff like this... watching the rise and fall of storms while hearing songs specifically created to match the feel of the time lapse would be a really neat experience.

  • @1302tigger I like the real sound too but the rhythm of the music goes great with the rotation of the Meso. Great job guys
