I got a 1996 Holden vs wagon, sounds the same but cant you just replace the bearing?

Time for the dustbin, needs £2000 pounds to fix. Time for the bin.

it just needs to be put under a lot of load to clear it's carby, jam it in 4th at about 30kph and wide open throttle till limit, job done

This is not an EJ25 or EJ257 engine, however don't let the 2.5L run out of oil, some of them consume a LOT of oil due to blow-by, and there is precious little you can do about it, just check the oil level every week, or after a hard run, and keep it topped up. Otherwise you will eat bearings. I helped a guy out the other day and he had almost no oil in his engine (an EJ251)... This seems to particularly be a problem with the thinner synthetics, but they are still the best oils to use.
