Operation Spider is a Citizen Science Project focussed on spiders in South Australia. How can you be involved?
1. Community survey and questionnaire - Become a Citizen Scientist and send in data about spiders online. You can tell us about the spiders you see and about your attitudes towards spiders. Log-in at abc.net.au/adelaide/operation
2. School projects - We have put together a broad range of educational materials for primary and middle school classes. Find out more at unisa.edu.au/barbarahardy/teachers
3. Poetry competition - We're running a poetry competition with great prizes for eight-lined poems about spiders. Full entry details are at abc.net.au/adelaide/operation

This project is being run by the Barbara Hardy Centre at UniSA with 891 ABC Adelaide, the SA Museum and the Department for Environment and Natural Resources.

  • What a terrific video, informative, educational and easy to understand. Fascinating creatures that live around us all the time!

Congratulations to the Operation Spider team - terrific project and a great example of scientific communication!

  • What a great video! Once fear is overcome the study becomes an inspiration to life.

How often we kill but how little we study that which is everywhere yet hidden with the intricate weaving of such finery. Spiders were my greatest study as a child only pity the beetles whom were their delectable meal. Once I leaned upon the door frame and crunch...down fell an australian huntsman....I looked at my hand and looked at the spider....poor thing I crushed a leg..I took it outside...amazed

  • Great video and a great new program to debunk the unfair myths and misconceptions about these incredibly important and incredibly intelligent little creepy crawlies! Hi to the lady in the grey top with the Wolf Spider! She's my sister! hehehe! :)
