This video gives a brief demonstration of the 50lb Utility hammer I built. Its a semi Junkyard Hammer, and is based on the Bull power hammer. It has a 2" bore, 16" stroke Bimba air cylinder. I am only using 12"-13" of that stroke. The main valve is double piloted, and the trigger valve is double acting, which means the hammer operate similar to a steam hammer. I can clamp the work, deliver a hard or soft single blow, or make the hammer cycle at any distance off the bottom die. It still needs improvement (including being bolted down). The tripping/motion mechanism is visible in the center bottom of the video.

The stock is 3/4" A-36 at approximately 2000 degrees F. I have drawing dies in the hammer, and have the air supply set at 140 psi.

  • OK where is powerhamer 1, did you make that yourself?

  • @TimmyOFlinn Yes, I did make it myself. I did buy the pneumatic components through Ebay. I took down powerhammer 1 because the video is sideways, and i didn't like looking at it like that. I need to edit it to fix that problem.

  • @backyardblacksmith Very cool, fix the first video. I'd like to see it. Could you give a bit of detail about the power hammer and how you made it.
