Waiting Outside the Lines Ch. 8 {Part 2}

"You can't tell Dad," Kat pleaded. "Please. I went to Mommy shortly after he stopped spanking me because I felt guilty that you three were still punished and I wasn't just because I was a girl."

Nick sighed, shaking his head. "Dad would be really mad that Mom is keeping something like this from him."

"She wouldn't have to if he looked at me like his child who misbehaves, not his daughter who has a period every month and gets bitchy during that time."

"Katherine," Nick said sternly, piercing her with a stern glare. "This new admission won't change what I said before. Dad's leaving tonight for a week to go back home and get out tour this summer together. If you misbehave, let it be getting smart or having a dirty mouth, I will punish you. I know Dad may not want to spank you, but I don't agree with him about it."

"That's why I went to Mommy so long ago," Kat whispered, looking down at her lap. She couldn't quite meet his intense gaze.

"Promise me you'll behave, because I swear I won't hesitate to take you over my knee." When she didn't look up, his hand gripped her chin gently but firmly and forced her eyes to meet his. "Katherine, promise me."

"I promise to try," Kat mumbled. She swatted his hand away, and he rolled his eyes.

Leaning in to kiss her cheek softly, he whispered, "I love you baby girl."

She nodded silently, snatching the remote up and flipping the TV on. Nick shook his head, walking towards the fridge situated in the 'kitchen' as the bus sped down the highway. Kat sprawled out on the couch and flipped through channels until she stopped on a college basketball game between a Mormon college, BYU, that was coming onto the national scene much to the help of their star guard Jimmer Fredette.

"You want a sandwich Kat?" Nick asked.

"Ham and mayo," she said, not looking up from the TV.

She thanked Nick for the sandwich and took the bottle of water she was handed. She'd sworn off sodas when she was eight, from the urging of her parents, and hadn't had one in over six years. It also helped with her health and stamina when it came to dancing.

"So what exactly the tour this summer gonna be like?" Kat asked when there was commercial break in the game.

"It's gonna be the Jonas Brothers featuring the Demi and the cast Camp Rock. We're thinking of Demi opening the show with some her Camp Rock songs and then going to a set of her own songs before we come out. And we want to sing songs from both the movies and the TV show. And we'll bring Demi out for her duets with Joe."

"So will I be dancing with Dems?" He nodded, taking a sip of his Diet Coke. "Well, this ought to be fun. Will I be getting paid?"

"Yes, in hugs and kisses," Nick said.

"Hey, this is my job just as much as it is yours," Kat defended herself. "I need money to be able to buy you all gifts for your birthdays and for Christmas. I'm not rolling in dough like the three of you are."

"You know we don't do this for the money," Nick said.

"Oh, I know, but you have to admit it doesn't hurt." Nick rolled his eyes once again.

They fell back into a comfortable silence when the game came back. Both admitted that the BYU guard Jimmer Fredette was straight balling and had a lot of talent. The game was just drawing to close with BYU coming out on top when they pulled up to the venue for the night's show.

"Are you coming in?" Nick asked.

"I will in a minute. I'm just gonna call Mika really quick." Nick nodded and left the bus and walked inside. Kat climbed up into her bunk and opened her Apple laptop she'd received from Kevin for her fifteenth birthday. She signed into her MSN messenger and smiled as a video chat request popped up immediately from Mika.

"Hello beautiful," he smirked.

"Wow, you're quoting Jonas songs now? Are you lacking that much in the ability to be smooth or something, because that's just a shame?" He chuckled, and I smiled at him. "I'm not fit to be seen right now. I haven't even done my makeup."

"I like you with no makeup on. It's more natural; more you." I blushed. "Hey, thanks for that shirt from Nashville. I didn't know you knew I liked Paramore."

"Hello, you used to blast it on flights," Kat giggled. "I heard it from across the plane."

"I'll give you that," he smiled. "How's tour going so far?"

"It's going fairly well. Nick just wrote a new song," she said, staring at her computer screen. She fell silent, studying his appearance on her computer. "I miss you."

She barely heard her own whisper.

"I miss you too baby girl." He kissed his hand and pretended to blow it to her. "I'll see you really soon, okay? I promise." Kat nodded, looking up when she heard her name called from the front of the bus; Big Rob was calling for her. "I love you sweetheart."

"I love you too," Kat mumbled quickly, shutting her computer and slipping out of her bunk.

Wow. I really like your stories, I've been reading them for a while. Sorry it took so long for me to start commenting. This was a cool chapter:) Nick and Kat's relationship is so cute! But in my honest opinion, I don't really like Kat and Mika. I thought her and Russle were super cute together. The age difference is too weird for me. It's like...I dunno. But that doesn't make your writing any less amazing:) Great chap!!
