Ryan Sandes, undoubtedly South Africa's top trail runner, will be heading for Antarctica in November 2010 to compete in the Last Desert Race, event number 4 of Racing The Planets 4 Deserts series. Having competed in, and won, the 2008 Gobi March in China and Sahara Race in Egypt, as well as the Atacama Crossing in Chile earlier in 2010, Ryan has set his sights on becoming the first competitor in the history of the 4 Deserts series to have won all 4 races.
On 0ctober the 8th 2010, Go Trail. Online editor James Hallett was invited to Cape Town to run with Ryan and sample the training techniques he'll be using as he prepares himself for the icy conditions he'll be facing come November. Two treadmills have been set up inside the Ice Chamber at the Cape Union Mart store where the temperatures can head well below the -15 degree celcius mark. Check out our coverage and our interview with Ryan from that trip.
