The Bush tax cuts are set to expire next year, and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said that the Obama administration fully intends to let them end. But will taxing the rich more really help the deficit or will the rich find loopholes? Alyona debates if people would be more willing to pay if a flat tax was implemented. It's working in Russia but would it help U.S. or make country worse off. Alyona debates with Ryan Ellis, tax policy director at Americans For Tax Reforms and Christian Dorsey, director of External and Government Affairs at the Economic Policy Institute.

  • @youngbuck189 What do you want the money for? They already pay more than enough to provide for those who cannot provide for themselves. Do you think a modest income earner who is getting by just fine should receive a wealth transfer from the rich?

  • @deadrepublicantv And who is this cutie?

  • Flat tax period. Nothing else is acceptible.

  • @tkabat1983 Your idea is unrealistic and would bankrupt the country. A more realistic alternative would be for a 5% federal flat progressive income tax. Eliminate all the brackets and just have it stay at 5% of income on everyone + if someone has a second job or more, let them keep all of it [there is no need to tax them double for working harder]. At least that is what i support.

  • Maximum wage. Huge taxes on the rich. Take control of the resources and the means of production for the benefit of the people. A wealth cap, over a certain limit money goes into the public purse, if the rich don't like it they can leave to a country that tolerates greedy leeches. We don't need the very rich they are a terrible drain on the rest of society. A change to participatory democracy from representative democracy would be a good place to start. End capitalism it's not helping.

  • flat tax is just...ahh w.e. rich ppl shoudltn pay everything but you cant make them equal for the lowest income workers and the highest

  • @isawanangel2 for what?

  • @isawanangel2 Those of us who give a shit know why. The R's will do nothing except ride the wave of hell we are in and install a new type of hell run by large corporations who will buy the elections and keep the war machine going. Of course deficit spending is okay when one needs the cash to steal resources from another country. As long as we have paper and ink it does not matter. We have the FRNs. . What we need is a large fire and a rebuild. Our entire system is a lie.

  • Tax payers pay for across the board kidnapping, murder(abortion) repression, chemtrails, and on and on. If you pay the federal gov't, you're supporting atrocities perpetrated continually on the world populus, period. It was such a beautiful view @ the Iraqi concentration camps. The yang is and will be one hell of a doozie.
