From our Interview with N.T. Wright on the Historical Jesus, this clip answers the question: Does the Gospel of John hold any historical value, or did John because of his love for Jesus, romanticize or embellish the story?

  • CAN SOMEONE POINT OUT IN WHAT OTHER HISTORY BOOKS IS THIS BABLE PRINTED IN APART FROM A BIBLE WHICH WAS WRITTEN ROUGHLY 3OO YEARS AFTER THE SO CALLED DEATH OF JESUS.

FACT IS THERE IS NO OTHER HISTORICAL BOOK AND IF YOU THINK THE BIBLE IS 100% HISTORY THEN HYPOCRITE COMES TOO MIND.

  • we misread john when he have this gospel claiming that Jesus was God? then why did the pharisees crucify him? because he made him out to be GOD. Must I give references?

his scholarly pride has got in the way, as is to be expected.

he is patronizing john by saying there is more history in john than we think. Fool of a man, it is ALL history

  • I personally warm to the idea that John is speaking from experience coloured by decades of prayer. If he didnt witness the living Jesus when he says that he did isn't he lying? Why would he do this?

  • The history in John is pretty skeletal, that is, that Jesus lived, was baptized, was tried, and executed. "The Word of God" come from Philo through the Stoics. That its most famous pun ("born again" vs. "born from above") works only in Greek, that the story of the woman caught in adultery seems to have been added in later, and that the bulk of John is made of stories that appear nowhere else (common stories should reflect in all the Gospels), suggest that this is a late work.
