Nov. 6, 2009, Dallas, TX.
Army SSGT. Shawn H. McNabb, 24, of Terrell, TX, died Oct. 26 of wounds suffered when the MH-47 helicopter he was aboard crashed in Darreh-ye Bum, Afghanistan.

A grateful nation honors your service. Your battle is over; rest in peace. Your courage, for our country, will forever be etched in our minds and hearts.

Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church of Terrell, before heading to DFW National Cemetery. The funeral procession was escorted by the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders. The procession arrived at 1:00PM as scheduled. The weather was beautiful with clear skies, in the upper 70s, with a light breeze. Once the procession drove down the winding road along Veterans Lake they made their way to Shed B.

Upon arrival the participants were greeted by the somber rings of a Liberty Bell replica. Members of the US Army 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Regiment (Airborne), from Hunter Army Airfield, GA, and a Honor Guard from nearby Ft. Worth Naval Air Station performed the military services.
Three round volley salute was performed along with Taps before the formal flag folding ceremony. Afterwards 3 flags were presented to the family as a symbol of our nations appreciation for their sacrifice.

Once the ceremony concluded many well wisher offered comfort to his grief stricken mother. Slowly the participants began to make their exits from the cemetery.

  • Rest In Peace Brother. You did well. Your with God now, no more war, peace and loe to those left behind from an OIF vet.

  • I cried because i loose my dad!

  • Great video, I wish I had thought to do something like this for my dad, he was a Marine veteran. God bless you for going all out for Army SSGT. McNabb, I am sure he was looking down feeling very honored by everything that was done for him. May God bless you and keep you strong. Although it doesn't feel like it now, the pain of loosing a loved one won't last forever. There is amazing strength in God. I wouldn't have made it through my dad's death without God. I'm praying for you all.

  • I cried while watching this video because it is sad to loose someone you love. I lost my father on July 11, 2009 and the pain is still there but it isn't as strong. I want to encourage the family and friends this brave soldier left behind. The Bible says in John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Hang on to that scripture and know that Army SSGT. McNabb sacrificed his life for you because he loved you. Keep him alive in your heart.

  • Thank you soldier.

    God Speed.
