SriLankan Civil war between Government forces and ethnic Tamil rebels Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. Genocide by Srilankan army.
The victims are the innocent Tamil Civilians living in the Northern part of SriLanka.

The Advocates of Tamil Nadu declared boycott of the courts from 19th January 2009 onwards indefinitely in support of the Tamil civilians of SriLanka. On 17.02.2009 one Subramanian Chami appeared as Party in Person before I Bench of the High Court of Madras to implead himself as a party in the Chidambaram Nataraja temple prohithar appeal case and it was alleged that some Advocates threw rotton eggs on him to insult him.

For what had alleged to have happened inside the court hall, contempt or other proceedings could have been initiated by the Court itself, instead the court asked the police to register a case and investigate and adjourned the appeal to 19.02.2009.

Instantly Police took the opportunity, registered First Information Report against 16 Advocates, arrested two and started hunting for 14 others.

In the meanwhile on 18.02.2009, the Madras High Court Advocates Association [MHAA] resolved to end boycott and to attend courts from the next day.

On 18.02.2009 Thursday, everything was calm and peaceful as all the advocates attended their normal court work throughout the forenoon but for a posse of about 2000 armed policemen from the reserve and the commando forces were stationed inside and outside the High Court campus on the pretext of arresting the 14 remaining advocates. Yet those advocates voluntarily surrendered to the police.

It is pertinent to point out that Eggs are not dangerous weapons or not even weapons and the throw of rotten eggs on a person amount only insult and the simple incident has been needlessly magnified for worse.

What followed after, were the most shameful and ugly scenes caused by the fleet of armed policemen, chasing, beating, lathi charging, pelting stones and bricks, pointing guns and threatening all the advocates and the general public inside the Courts and around the campus and the mighty police spread their unlawful actions of chasing and injuring the Advocates, public and Judges, throughout, both in and out of the court halls and offices and out on the surrounding Roads and into the Streets.

In the melee, several lower Court Judges, Court staff and one senior Judge of the High Court on his verge of retirement were lathi charged, beaten, injured and were taken to hospital and many grievously injured were admitted as in- patients. It is reliably learnt that some judges hid themselves in side the bathrooms attached to their chambers to escape from the erratic and unruly behavior and onslaught of the aggressive policemen and their officers.

Policemen damaged High Court Buildings, Advocates Chambers, Elevators, furniture's, also broke glass doors, windows, Televisions, Computers, Display LCDs, Cars and Two Wheelers, wantonly and indiscriminately

Despite all these atrocities until this day no complaint has been lodged by the High Court either Suo Motu or through their Registrar General as to the destruction of the public property of the High Court Buildings and its contents or for the brutal attacks on the Judges and several staff members apart from the barbarian attacks on the Advocates, Law officers of the Court and their vehicles. The unruly mob consisting of policemen through their illegal acts of violence specifically acted against the provisions of the Destruction of the Public Property Act and committed many other offences under the penal code on that day.

The Pride and Prestige of Judiciary had been marred. The threatened Judiciary has betrayed their Advocate Law Officers and has refused to initiate actions against the aggressors, for the injuries and insults caused. It is obvious that the victims are the Advocates and Court Staff. Mighty Governments with their brutal police force silenced Judiciary. The Cries of the Victims are heard in the deserts with none to help them but themselves. If Justice is not meted out to the Lawyers / Law Officers of the Court then no citizen can be saved.

  • This incident happened inside the High Court of Chennai Tamil Nadu India. It shows there is no justice in India

  • In India specially in Tamil Nadu only corrupted politicians along with their goondas ie Police threatened Judiciary and trying to take control over it. till now no one can stop it. they are also falsely giving statements against advocates. I can clearly see that no one can prevent such unlawful acts.
