16 Trains at Woodbourne: Railfanning the weekend of April 30 and May 1, 2011

On the weekend of April 30 and May 1, Woodbourne was hopping with action. Lot's of trains, good people, and good times.

10:16 AM -
CSX Q409-29 coasts west through Woodbourne with an AC60CW pair, CSX 603 and CSX 5004. Note the Santa Boxcar three cars back.
Q409 - Selkirk, NY - Hamlet, NC Manifest

10:25 AM -
After the Q409 is Q703-30, headed west with a EMD pair of CSX SD70AC 4735 and CSX SD50-2 8606 pulling loaded trash.
Q703 - Selkirk, NY - Richmond, VA Trash Loads

11:10 AM -
Q190-30 heads east down the Wood Connecting Track with CSX ES40DC 5366 and CSX ES40DC 5278, with a friendly crew.
Q190 - Philadelphia, PA - South Kearney, NJ Intermodal

12:27 PM -
Q418-30's power runs lite to the east end of the yard to shove in with CSX CW44AH 566 and CSX CW44AH 5118 as power, before coming east about an hour later with a huge train. SEPTA 4328 also heads east with SL III 229, SL IV 287, SL IV 137, and SL IV 138.

4:10 PM -
The Sun is now out as Q438-29 chugs east with CSX AC60CW 673 (with a defective ditchlight) and CSX AC44CW 54 running elephant style.

4:14 PM -
NS 14G drifts east towards Morrisville with NS ES40DC 7603, NS C40-9 8857 and NS CW40-9 9925 running elephant style.
14G - Conway, PA - Morrisville, PA Manifest

5:04 PM
NS 17G throttles west out of Morrisville with NS SD70M-2 2731 and NS C40-8 8729 running elephant style, with plenty of RBMN hoppers in the consist. *Update* After a wreck on June 28th, 2011, NS 8729 has been retired.
14G - Morrisville, PA - Conway, PA Manifest

5:12 PM -
CSX Q706-30 heads east through Woodbourne with CSX GP40-2 6138 making a return appearance on it.
Q706 - Philadelphia, PA - Oak Island, NY Trash Empties

6:48 PM -
S439-30 comes west next with another elephant style lash-up of CSX ES40DC 5289 and CSX SD40-2 8320 in YN1 for power.
S439 - Selkirk, NY - Baltimore, MD Manifest/Extra Q439

7:48 PM -
Q301-30 roars west with CSX SD60I 8745 making another appearance in the area. Anyway, CSX 8745 leads CSX SD50-2 8553.

7:58 PM -
NS train 64E throttles up eastbound for Morrisville, and eventually Amtrak, with NS SD70M 2644 and NS SD70M-2 2649 pulling loaded Herzog cars, with some Amtrak ones on the rear.
64E - Abrams, PA - Morrisville, PA Loaded Herzog Ballast

The next day, May 1, I bought myself a new DLSR, and decided I would try it out, so I went back to Woodbourne the next day.

2:08 PM -
Q418-01 chugs eastbound after working the yard with an unwelcome leader in the form of CSX CW44AH 568, with CSX AC60CW 685 trailing.

2:26 PM -
Q409-30 comes west with CSX ES40DC 5254 and CSX C40-8 7589 for power. SEPTA 4332 also heads east with SL IV 371 and SL IV 370.

4332 - Philadelphia, PA - West Trenton, NJ

2:35 PM -
Following yesterday's footsteps is Q703-01 coming west behind the Q409. Q703 has the same basic lash-up, with ES40DC 5390 leading C40-8 7639.

4:29 PM -
CSX Q410-29 roars east with CSX SD70AC 4785 and CSX SD60 for power, with the pair of 710 turbocharged pm's screaming.
Q410 - Waycross, GA - Selkirk, NY Manifest

4:41 PM -
Closing the weekend out is Q174-30 headed east with CSX ES40DC 5421 (K5LA horn), CSX SD40-2 8835, and CSX AC60CW 642 for power. The 8835 is a rare addition to this train, as intermodal trains don't typically feature SD40-2's anymore.
