@QualityServiced thats from the wikipedia and he also has a software and investment company FTR Holdings Ltd which positions in a number of Internet businesses including Webcentral and Chaos.com and was the chairman of OzEmail.
ANYWAYS I'm guessing he wants a slice of the "40 billion" or whatever he said it was. if he gets into government he probably already has his own plans for broadband for the country to get his hands on more moneys.
In 2005 his net worth was estimated at $133 million, making him Australia's richest parliamentarian. The 2009 annual BRW list of the richest Australians put Turnbull at 182 of 200, with an estimated net worth of $178 million. He is the only MP in Australia to make the list. He made the the list for the second year running in 2010, and although he slipped from 182 to 197, his estimated net worth increased to $186 million, continuing to be the only sitting politician to make the list.
"What we should be doing is building a network that is capable of meeting our demands today and those that we can see, reasonably foresee for a reasonable period in the future."
No one cares about today, Turnbull-sh!t. We care about tomorrow. There is absolutely NO POINT in designing a system for today; we NEED one for TOMORROW.
From what he said, the NBN sounds like the perfect solution!
If and when the NBN is scrapped, Telstra will propose an equivalent system (most likely incorporating propriety technology ei: Telstra T-Touch Tab (What a mouthful!), that they can use to maintain their monopolising empire over the telecommunications industry. (Greedy libs). I predict Telstra's proposal would be almost symetrical to the NBN, the only difference being they would once again own the infrastructure and continue to make it difficult for smaller competing ISP's.
Turnbull is a racist. Making a Kool-aid joke at the expense of that poor yank. We don't have Kool-aid in AUS; to me, that like telling a person from India to lay off the curry. If Mark was of African decent, this would be a sh!t storm. Pardon me, BTTTAH: Back ToTheTopic At Hand ;)
In Turnbull-shits opinion, "we" only want fibre for warez and piracy? You knob! But he is not to blame as much as his advisors (Telstra)
Telstra only oppose the NBN cause they cant make super-profits from it.
bloody turnbull doesn't understand how exponential growth works. It's not just video that requires increased bandwidth, most sites today require a minimum of 1Mb/s to load in a decent amount of time, thanks to images, flash and advertising embedded in the page.
Smug condescension and loud scoffing doesn't cover the ignorance or lack of understanding, Malcolm. And keep your hands to yourself, have you no manners?
"Build a network for what we can reasonably forsee in the future"...umm, the only future the Coalition can currently see with respect to this project is the three-year election cycle. I'm a life-long liberal voter, but the current load of bozos just cannot see beyond 2013...have some vision Malcolm!
Turnbull is correct. We only need it for HI-DEF video streaming. ADSL2 is more than enough for everything else.

If you had the option of purchasing toilet paper at 10c / roll x 1000, or 50c / roll x 20, what would you choose?
Sure, 1000 rolls of toilet paper is a lot, but you're saving $400 for the future.
$40B is a truck load of money, but you buy in bulk and save. It works out cheaper in the future.
