Written for my dad.....Father's Day 2009........based on a saying my dad has said many times about his childhood....."you didn't have 'bout nothin'.....but you had it all......."

My daddy used to have a swimmin' hole
When he was a boy they dug it all
He'd run real hard, now watch him go
He'd hit the water it was cold like snow

In the holler of a Pennsylvania mountainside
Was a boy from a miner's family's paradise
Yes there was

There was an old Ford rustin' out back in the shed
The kids had to sleep maybe four to the bed
But my daddy'd say ......They didn't have 'bout nothing
THEY HAD IT ALL

Cause there were melons in a cold cold stream
And he never had to keep real clean
There was always someone there to play
You could run and hunt and fish all day

And somewhere in the kitchen on a table 'bout so high
In the morning was a feast...fit for a king in disguise
Yes there was.....

Well there was nothin' fancy 'bout my grandmama's place
But there was always somethin' put a smile on your face

And my daddy'd say....They didn't have 'bout nothing

Well you can't get what he had at the store
There are still things that money can't afford
Yes there are......

There were bottle rockets on the 4TH
Old people chatting on the porch
Daddy lived and loved and roamed and played
He'd go for miles never once afraid

Cause someone down the way would find him at his play
And drive him on back home at the end of his day

There was family all around there anyway
And I wish I had that sort of thing today

And that's why Daddy'd say....they didn't have 'bout nothin'.....
