    4) God condoning the beating of slaves (even if the slave ends up dying).

“The LORD said to Moses: Thus you shall say to the Israelites: ‘… When a slave-owner strikes a male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies immediately, the owner shall be punished. But if the slave survives for a day or two, there is no punishment: for the slave is the owner’s property.’”

    (Exodus 20:22, 21:20-21)

    3) God commanding that children who merely strike their parents be killed.

“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘… He who strikes his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.’”

    (Exodus 20:22, 21:15)

  • @DNAunion Clicked on wrong reply. This page never seems to run properly on my PC. Jumps .... I apologise my free thinking, released from bronze age dogma friend!

  • @currie1967

    Um, I'm an atheist.

  • @DNAunion My o my that passage has just converted me, How clever and free thinking you are, did you type or use cut and paste? You're so very clever! I no longer will seek the truth of the universe and our place in it on evidence but will reject it all and put all my faith in a 2000 year old mythical book ..... Thank you

  • i do not believe in any god. i am an atheist. i think obsession with any god is the greatest obstacle to human intellectual enhancement. i come from a traditional buddhist background. so i guess i am religious. but these arguements of anti-religious atheists leave me speechless. i do not fit into any gross categories nor do i want to.

  • @c0unterph0bia I completely agree with your contention. But I would like to strengthen your argument by saying that there actually exists a mathematical proof by Russell & Whitehead that 1+1 does actually equal 2.

  • @notinthemood2005 Sure, we can't prove 1+1=2, but we "suppose it's evident" BECAUSE IT WORKS. 1+1=2 produces beautiful art and music. 1+1=2 puts men on the moon. 1+1=2 collides atoms that can't be seen or felt. 1+1=2 constructs massive structures. 1+1=2 enables technology like the computer you are using. When Christians start praying people to the moon, maybe then I'll consider your method a better tool for perceiving reality than 1+1=2. Until then, you'll continue to look like an idiot.

  • @DNAunion You'd think an omnipotent and omnipresent being would foresee how confusing a book full of half parabolic and half straightforward stories would be. The book doesn't even bother to denote what's a parable and what isn't! The Israelites were taking slaves and beating them to death over your god's incompetency!
