About the lack of sound channels; they were missing in Castlevania due to the fact that Konami developed their own, integrated sound chip into their games, as they weren't satisfied with the ordinary NES sound chip.
As for the song, it's a pretty cool NES version of it. Where did you get those drums? They sound like the ones in Ninja Gaiden and Mother, I love them.
