Halloween Prank

Back in middle school I loved to scare trick-or-treaters. My trick was to create a sense of safety by establishing a "scarecrow". As neighbors approach, they are likely to assume there is a man inside the costume, waiting to jump out at them. We create a false sense of security by having the scarecrow drop the sickle and not pick it up. Then they go to the door for their candy. When they return, he is holding the sickle once again. Just before they put it all together... he strikes!

My brother Dan, cousin Paul and friend Dave have played the role through the years.

The guy in the costume is wearing a walkie talkie headset and I'm instructing him from behind the camera, so the camera and he can hear my voice but the trick-or-treaters cannot. They can, however, hear me when I scream into the microphone plugged into an amplifier hidden just below the scarecrow.

It's fun to scare trick or treater, I dress up as an evil Jester and either stand still like a statue or hide in the garage and jump out through the side door. It's the best!
