LOWER KARAZHAN INFORMATION:

Note: This is what I attempted to post on WoWWiki.com. Unfortunately, they did not accept my post and wanted nothing to do with this video.

==Zones==
There are a total of six zones within the crypts underneath Karazhan, each more gruesome than the last. The following is again, speculation, and is just information through observation.

- Well of the Forgotten: This location is fairly plain, and is the first area you see as you enter. There is a tomb of unknown origins, in addition to a well that leads to the pit of criminals. It is evident that criminal corpses were tossed down the well in order to dispose of them, although the definition of "criminal" is unknown, nor if this area was under direct rule by Medivh.

- The Pauper's Walk: Possibly the largest of the six zones, the Pauper's Walk extends to nearly all other areas in the crypt, and is littered with skeletons, mummified bodies, and bones. The name appears to allude to its usage. A pauper, or literally a very poor individual, would make primary use of the area. Whether the lower class were paid to work in this pseudo-hell, or were led to their death, is unclear.

Various doors and gates appear in this area as well, all of which lead to nothing. This adds to the possibility that Blizzard has yet to finish Lower Karazhan. Many of the doors appear with odd names such as Doodad_WroughtIronDoor05, again demonstrating it's obvious incompleteness.

- The Pit of Criminals: As mentioned in the previous section, the Pit of Criminals holds a massive pile of aged bones. Corpses were thrown down into the well, either to hide or to dispose of. A double staircase leads to an empty room, which through time appears to have partially caved-in.

- Tome of the Unrepentant: The most confusing of areas, the Tome of the Unrepentant is a large hall with a still-water pond and multiple access points from above. A tome is a large scholarly book, and there is not a single literary work to be found.

A possible reference to Keli'dan the Breaker is made, as he drops the [[Leggings of the Unrepentant]] in heroic Blood Furnace. The connection between him and this zone is, however, unlikely.

- The Upside-down Sinners: Possibly the most horrific zone in all of World of Warcraft, the Upside-down sinners is located underwater, just past the Pauper's Walk. In the murky water, chains and hooks string up men who hang with their feet to the ceiling. Their bodies untouched by time and unidentifiably mummified each retell a dark story of the games past.

This area makes the possibility of Lower Karazhan becoming an instance uncertain, as nothing this grim has ever been seen.

The Slough of Dispair: This area is a large room with nothing in it, comprising of a pit sprinkled with bones. Despite being uneventful to visit, the broadness of it's name causes it to be the most interesting. A slough contains two definitions of interest; 1) a muddy pit full of wet or soggy ground; 2) a condition of degradation, despair, or helplessness. (dictionary.com). The word "slough" quite literally describes the appearance of the room, but also oddly enough relates to the second word as well, making it "the Despair of Dispair".

Looking at the word "dispair", it first appeared to be incorrectly spelled. However, the terms dispair means the separation of a pair.

So finally, looking at the title again, it is saying "the despair of being separated". Perhaps married couples were killed here, or something major in lore occurred at this very spot. Either way, the empty room will impress lore-fans everywhere.

This area could be accessed via dying close to the gate and running through it, but this was changed in Patch 2.0. However, entry is still possible through dueling and being sheeped or feared into the zone, as well as through Warlock summons if there are already present inside.

  • The water part is just.. crazy.

  • If you turn up the ambience there and mute everything else, you can hear faint heartbeat, which usually gets louder as you get closer to to those two tombs in one chamber, (most likely) Medivh's and his mother, Aegwynn's tombs.. That really freaks me out as the heartbeat alone is VERY creepy in that crypt.

  • i just been there tho... pity they out ur film on the website :(

  • @DonMooney312

    >you know, you know everything

he did not say nor imply this

he merely stated that that it would be reason for a higher rating is not a probable reason for not including this content into the officially available game, since it would most probably not be seen as reason for a higher rating; this seems reasonable to me

  • @willmaster93 that only the first modle for the crypt, they wanted to make it more, well, MORE , in the way that it will remaind very much the more horrific and gorey parts of diablo 2. Two of us know Blizzard got the ability to make things creepy.

  • I believe what is written about the "Slough of Dispair" may be mistake. I think about it this way: its a slough(damp soggy pit), of separation... Let's see, what sort of separation would make the ground wet and soggy? I don't know, DISMEMBERMENT? Yeah, creepy huh? I would put the last room at the top of the creepy shit list

  • rofl woah woah wait. THIS underwater place with people hanging is gonna push WoW to M for Mature? You guys who say this are not only seriously mistaken, but must have never been to Trisfal Glades or Silverpine Forest. You should check it out, I'm pretty sure there are people hanging everywhere. And don't even get me started on the Ogre encampments with their human heads on poles guarding the entrance, or that abomination factory in the Undercity.

  • Scariest thing in WoW hands down. I was actually so scared running around there on my lock :(

  • ive played WoW for over 7 years now and i never knew about this area... no over ever spoke about it and then i heard about it on another website i stumbledupon. its creepy knowing a game i always played and loved had something like this in it and i never knew

  • I'm glad this didn't turn into one of those, "Its in the program files and we didn't show it to the ESRB but inaccessible to the public under normal use of our products" things like nudity or the infamous Hot Coffee mod...

Of course, its violence and not nudity. Because its more scarring for me to see an argonian woman topless than it is for me to see bloated corpses with their eyes gouged out and their hands chopped off, hanging on a meat hook.

  • @4BeastBoy If you want really dark and creepy wait for D3, As much as i would like to see this zone opened and used for something I can understand why they didn't and probably never will, its much scarier than anything ever put in WoW, and would probably raise the rating to M. Which is something blizzard does not want for this game.

  • @txngurl25 And yet there exists a boss in the game made from the bodies of countless women and children. -THAT- isn't "too morbid"? Blizz has some skewed idea of what's too grimdark and what isn't.
