For School girl anime, check out "Azumanga Daioh", "Clannad", "ef- a tale of memories", "High School of the Dead", "Voices of a Distant Star", and "Lucky Star". For harem anime, what about "Ranma 1/2" and "Love Hina"? Again, anime are generally filled with strong, independent females. What specific anime are you talking about that have given you this clouded vision of women in anime?

those anime are different, and i was implying harem, school girl, and magic girl animes. you make some good points, but the majority of anime girls, especially of the past 10-15 years, have had this static personality design.

What I meant was "Why aren't women more like Haruhi (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu), Haruka (FLCL), Kagura (Gintama), Winry (Full Metal Alchemist), Akane (Ranma 1/2), Nino (Arakawa Under the Bridge), Rukia (Bleach), Faye (Cowboy Bebop), Asuka (Evangelion), Tomo (Azumanga Daioh), Karen (Code Geass), Nagisa (Clannad), Chidori (Full Metal Panic), Fujiko (Lupin III) or a lot of other characters I don't have room for?"
