How very, very sad. We seem to have no respect for our irreplaceable architectural history. In America it's better to have a vacant lot than an historical building.

the building was damaged by the demolition

O tell me about it, I can understand if there is no other way for an expantion or something but it is stupid to tear down historical buildings with each one lost a little bit of our ancestry dies that built the place and was formed by the place. I suppose they replaced it with some half pint ugly library that has not even a touch of style or uniqueness to it.

They only demolished the more recent part of the building. The tower in the background is still there. They then built a new building around the core of the old building. It just re-opened this past fall.
