Sinatra's first TV appearance was on this Bob Hope show, May 27, 1950. Here is an excerpt of the hilarious patter between Bob and Frank. Sinatra also sings a couple of songs and appears in a couple of sketches. A memorable TV debut. www.bobontv.com has this and all Bob Hope shows on DVD!

  • LOVE Frank's laugh at 0:49. I honestly don't think today's audience could keep up with this.

  • I saw this show as a kid, watching it from our trailer with my parents. Great video !

  • Why the heck am I crushing on Frank Sinatra?!?!?!?!

  • Sad times. Hope gave Frankie a guest spot on his show, when no one else wanted to employ him. His first TV appearance after his voice came back. Do you remember about it? I’ll never forget. Thanks a lot for video.

  • The ONE thing Frank and Bob had in common was that they both engaged in extra-marital affairs- only Hope was more discreet (and meticulous) in shielding his from the press and public.

  • "The Pooped-Out Pinza" is a topical reference to Ezio Pinza, an operatic singer who became a star on Broadway opposite Mary Martin in "South Pacific" in 1949.

  • ...and this was from Bob's second TV special- his first, "THE STAR SPANGLED REVUE" was telecast on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1950, to the biggest national audience ever tuned into a TV special at that time [and TV wasn't able to transmit "coast-to-coast" back then: most viewers, in some areas, saw Hope's early specials on kinescope film over a week after they were telecast "live"]- that convinced him television was in his future, also convincing Frank Sinatra to join him as a guest on show #2.

  • Just fantastic I adore Sinatra!

  • Frank Sinatra is just... what's the closest thing they had to a modern day "badass" back in that time period?

  • They worked together great, and even seemed like friends, but it would be hard to find two more different men.
