I was recording when the 9.0 Tohoku earthquake struck.

The most amazing part is that this location in Nikko Japan is in the mountains 500 meters above sea level and 300km from the epicenter 9.0 Tohoku earthquake.

Nikko is about 110 km due north of Tokyo and 145 km southwest of the Fukushima nuclear reactor.

We were at Taiyuin Mausoleum in the Unesco world heritage area of Nikko National Park, north of Tokyo, in the tourist part of Nikko Japan. This is also where Toshogu Shrine, Futarasan Temple, Rinno Temple and Shinkyo bringe are.

  • Will all the shops be opened this summer in Nikko? My first wife and I were married there and I love to go back again...

  • @fuzzypaws17 yes, certainly everything will be open this year.

  • It's good to see the old Nikko temples stood up well. How did you feel when you started hear about the nuke plant?

  • @tornados28 @toshogu the situation was completely avoidable and preventable.

  • Wow. And sad to think that minutes after you shout this video a tsunami was slamming into the coast.

  • @tornados28 @toshogu even though phone service went out immediately, it wasn't until I heard about the fires in Yokohama 2 hours later that it hit me how catastrophic it would all be.

  • @ZenHostel Yes. I wonder now how much radiation my kids got when they stayed in Otwara from June till August.

  • @dporrata the Taiyuin Mausoleum is indeed my favorite, the gardens are tranquil. Such a beautiful place to be when the Tohoku earthquake happened.

  • @axesent lol your fridge was like, where do you think your going....!

  • Was a wild day. my fridge fell over and blocked the exit!

Goes to show the way the temples were built so long ago, that they were still built with quakes in mind!!
